Diving into an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a hero that is actually a dung attempting to navigate to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a single jump button. In one hundred fifty challenges, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to buy skins for your poop character.

Execute your actions precisely, since one wrong move forces starting over. Leap off air pockets to launch the poop to new heights, traverse disappearing ledges, and activate switches to reveal secret routes. Collect coins to purchase tougher levels where things ramps up.

Visually, the experience boasts neon level designs and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style of morphing basic polygons could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although hard to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, video games often featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content appears a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on computers in the fall.
