Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a life-threatening collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident took place on the third lap when marshals were seen on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was extremely hazardous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a miscommunication somehow but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track track officials can be allowed to just run across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was informed that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" commented the regulatory authority

"During the third lap, track officials were informed and made ready to enter the track and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy officials were rescinded and a safety warning flag was shown in that section"
