One teenage youth was discovered deceased just days after being falsely accused of taking the ashes of a deceased infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

The young boy's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed stolen remains generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She explained that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at home, but nothing was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The court learned his family said they did not got that communication.

Official Finding

Senior investigator informed the hearing he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his intent."
